Will Chen is a Hong Kong–born filmmaker, now based in London and preparing to graduate from the MA Filmmaking program at the London Film School. His passion for cinema was ignited during the pandemic, after watching Edward Yang’s Yi Yi, which opened his eyes to how film can capture the quiet struggles and beauty of ordinary lives.

His first work was a short documentary shot on iPhone about Chinese immigrants in Spain, made while he was living there. The film was selected and screened at several Spanish film festivals, marking his first step into filmmaking.
Will’s style is strongly influenced by Andrea Arnold, Ken Loach, and Lee Chang-dong, filmmakers who focus on the everyday lives of small individuals in contemporary reality. Through realism and character-driven stories, Will explores alienation, displacement, and the search for connection in today’s changing world. He is now developing his graduation film, The Shortest Day of the Year (冬至), a story about loneliness and the Hong Kong immigrant experience in London.
